About the Artist
The Full Story
Ben Greene-Colonnese is a glass artist based in Asheville, North Carolina, working where fine art meets function through cast glass sculpture and design lighting. He has lived and worked in Western North Carolina since 2012, drawing ongoing influence from the region’s mountains and working landscapes. Originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Greene-Colonnese is also an avid rock climber and fly-fishing guide, practices that inform his material sensibility and approach to form. When not in the studio, he spends time working in the landscape itself, allowing the natural environment to shape his understanding of form, light, and material. His work explores the relationship between natural material and crafted object, using hand-formed glass—often paired with stone—to investigate contrast, restraint, and light. All works are designed and fabricated by the artist.
Statement
My work bridges natural materials and made form. Using glass and stone, I explore contrast—fragile and solid, transparent and opaque, wild and worked. Each piece is shaped by hand to honor the material and the place it comes from.
